Obituary

William (Billy) Stavros passed away in Concord, New Hampshire following a short illness on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

Billy was born in Concord on August 29, 1940, the only son of Lucas and Agathi (Demetry) Stavros. Billy was a student-athlete in high school, he participated in both track and field and football. He was honored to be chosen to play in the Shriner Maple Sugar Bowl in 1958 versus Vermont leading NH to a 18-0 victory. Following his graduation from Concord High School in 1958, he answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Marine Corps.

On March 28, 1962, Billy married Patricia (Pat) Moynihan. Together, they raised three children. Although their marriage eventually ended in divorce, Billy and Pat maintained a good friendship throughout the years, a testament to the enduring bond they shared.

Family was an important part of Billy’s life. He treasured trips to the beach, camping adventures, and traveling with his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He dedicated many years to serving as a Scout leader for his two sons, guiding them from their early childhood through high school.

Billy dedicated over 35 years of his working life to the United States Postal Service. The National Safety Council honored him with the prestigious “Million Mile” award. Through his years of service, he built many lifelong friendships with his coworkers, relationships that extended far beyond the workplace. His years at the Post Office were not only a career but also a source of lasting connections and cherished memories.

A lifelong automobile enthusiast, Billy was especially proud of his 1932 Chevrolet Coupe. The car held a special place in his heart, having been given to him by his godfather when Billy was just 14 years old. He lovingly held on to it for decades, making it far more than a classic car, it was a treasured connection to his youth and a reminder of a lifetime of memories.

In addition to classic cars, Billy enjoyed woodworking and cheering on his favorite New England sports teams: the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and his newest fandom of the WNBA. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play sports and celebrating their accomplishments. These moments brought him tremendous pride and happiness.

He was predeceased by his son Christopher, his life long friend Blair, and his six sisters: Helen, Christiana, Anna, Georgia, Pauline and Barbara.

He is survived by his son, Bill (Bones) Stavros, his Daughter Melissa Girouard and her husband Danny. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren Christopher, Ashley, Trevor, Skylar, Katelyn, Bodhi, Henry and Owen.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, November 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord.
