Sister Emmanuel
Of The Virgin Mary, O.C.D., Florence Letitia Sache
March 19, 2023
Sister Emmanuel of the Virgin Mary, O.C.D., (Florence Letitia Sache), entered eternal life Sunday March 19, 2023, at Marie Esther Nursing Home in Marlborough, Massachusetts. She was born October 13, 1922 in Boston, Massachusetts, to Edward L. Sache and Anna F. Hamilton. Her younger brother William predeceased her. His wife Evelyn resides in the Boston area. A niece and nephews live further away but remained in touch with her.
She always appreciated her Boston heritage including her primary school years at Boston Latin and her time at Boston's Emmanuel College. Drawn to a life of prayer and silence she entered the Carmelite Monastery in Boston November 26, 1945. In 1946, though a novice, she was asked to participate in the foundation of the Carmelite Monastery of Concord. She made her First Profession May 29, 1947 and her final vows May 29,1950.
A Foundress, she was always a faithful and dedicated Sister who served with devotion and generosity her community and the many who contacted her. She was elected Prioress of her Community multiple times, ever willing to give of herself, come what may. In her later years she needed assistance but continued to be present at all the community functions. When the Sisters had to leave their Monastery, she was one of the first to depart.
She was received at the Marie Esther Home in Marlborough, Massachusetts where she was reunited with one of her companions of the Boston Carmel, Sister Patricia Kealty, who died recently. Sister Louise Aylward of Concord chose a residence in Marlborough as well and was able to visit Sister Emmanuel regularly, to the joy and comfort of each. Sister Louise was with Sister Emmanuel when she died March 19.
There will be a wake at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday March 26.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Monday March 27, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Saint Joseph Cemetery in Bedford, New Hampshire. The interment will take place at the Carmelite Sisters' resting place near this little chapel. You are welcome to celebrate our Sister Emmanuel's long life of prayer and service and to accompany her to her resting place. Thank you for remembering her.
