Sister Theresa
Of Jesus, O.C.D Theresa Marie Marguerite Horth
March 6, 2024
Sister Theresa of Jesus, O.C.D., Theresa Marie Marguerite Horth, entered eternal life Wednesday March 6, at Saint Joseph Residence in Manchester, New Hampshire .
She was born October 18, 1926 in Lynn, Massachusetts, the fifteenth child of Paul and Elizabeth LeBrasseur Horth. She grew up in the midst of that large family who welcomed two more girls. She outlived all of her siblings, commenting occasionally that she was the last one.
After her High School graduation in Lynn, Massachusetts, Theresa entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston. She pronounced her first vows and taught at one of their schools. While discerning a vocation to Carmel, she applied, was accepted, and entered the Carmelite Monastery of Concord, NH. Her blood sister, Carmen, Sister Paula, had preceded her a few years prior. Theresa made profession with the Carmelites on September 10th 1950.
Sr. Theresa of Jesus served in various capacities her Sisters and the many who contacted the Monastery. She was a cook, bread maker, and baker. As a skilled seamstress in the vestment department, Sr. Theresa supported her Community. She worked as a sacristan, prepared the Carmelite memorial cards, community mailings and was responsible for the Carmelite Guild. She especially enjoyed walking in her large flower garden plucking the first shoots of any weed.
In the late 1990's, Sr. Theresa of Jesus was named Formation Director for women who entered the Carmelites. Her quiet and lively spirit as well as her deep sense of insight was beneficial to all whom she served.
Although her last years were less active, her praying heart always desired to be of help to others. After a bad fall and sudden illness, Jesus called her to himself.
