Obituary

Philip Conrad Desmarais, 77, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026. A devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, orthodontist, veteran, coach, and friend, Phil lived a life centered on caring for others, serving his community, and creating lasting memories.

Born on December 27, 1948, in Concord, NH, Phil was the son of Conrad and Janet (Foote) Desmarais and a lifelong member of the Concord community. He graduated from Concord High School before attending the University of New Hampshire. He continued his education at Fairleigh Dickinson Dental School, earning degrees in dentistry and orthodontics.

Phil served his country in the United States Navy as a dentist stationed in Key West, Florida. Following his military service, he completed his orthodontic training and returned to New Hampshire, where he established practices in Concord and Littleton, and cared for generations of patients. He was known for his professionalism, kindness, and genuine concern for others.

In 1972, Phil married the love of his life, Marylou Acquaviva. Together they shared more than five decades of marriage and built a family that was the center of his life. He was a loving father to Kevin Desmarais (and Kevin's wife Kyla). His greatest joy was being "Bup Bup" to his beloved granddaughters, Reese (13) and Ella (9). He followed their lives with endless pride and enthusiasm, celebrated their accomplishments, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Phil was deeply committed to serving his community. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club. He also volunteered as a youth basketball coach for more than 11 years. A lifelong athlete himself, Phil enjoyed tennis, basketball, and cycling.

Phil loved the Florida Keys, especially Key West and Cudjoe Key, where he spent many cherished years. He was a certified diver, avid boater, kayaker, fisherman and snorkeler. Whether exploring the waters of the Keys, spending time on a boat with family and friends, or enjoying the beauty of the ocean, he found peace and happiness on the water.

Phil embraced opportunities to experience new places, cultures, and people throughout the US and abroad. He had a passion for photography, capturing memories from his travels and everyday life. He was also a New England sports fan who rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Boston Celtics and New England Patriots.

Above all else, Phil cherished time spent with family and friends. His warmth, loyalty, generosity, and steady presence made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. He leaves behind memories that will be treasured by those who knew him.

Phil is survived by his wife, Marylou Desmarais; his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Kyla; granddaughters, Reese and Ella; sisters, Anne Jones (Clint); Joan Desmarais (Doug Copeley); Jill Desmarais (Dan Frank); along with many extended family members.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support, kindness, and friendship shown by relatives, friends, neighbors, colleagues. The compassion and care will never be forgotten from the Granite VNA, Concord Hospital 5th floor Oncology Unit and the doctors and staff at Concord Oncology Hematology.
