Peggy-Ann Reid of Concord passed away June 18th at Concord Hospice House following a year-long struggle with lung cancer.
Peggy-Ann was born in Berlin in July of 1929 the daughter of Royden S. and Reina Leavitt. She was raised in Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School in 1947. She attended Simmons College before transferring to UNH where she graduated in 1952. She worked for the Veterans Administration in Portsmouth prior to her 1953 marriage to high school and college sweetheart Bill. Following the birth of their five children, she served for 26 years in the Guidance Department of Concord High School.
Peggy-Ann was a generous and enthusiastic supporter of UNH athletic and academic programs and proud of her student involvement there in both the university's marching and concert bands. She was the always-available neighborhood volunteer for a host of health and cultural causes. And she was an instant responder to anyone seeking her aid.
She will be remembered for this compassion; for her spontaneous laughter; for the facility to find the humorous side of human foibles, especially her own; for her cookie jar; for her love and respect of the natural world – birds and animals, plants, trees and flowers – and her lifelong devotion to family cats. She prized her close relationship with those she worked with during and following her working years at Concord High School.
Above all, she was a loving and beloved mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Peggy-Ann is survived by son Peter and daughter-in-law Barbara of East Concord and their children Christopher and Colin; son Stephen and his wife Wendy of Concord and Niamey, Niger and their children Lindsay and Brian; son Mark and his wife Isabel of Miami and their children Annette and Andres, son Scott and his wife Marion of Warner and their children Oscar, Joselin, Mary Frances, William, Maximilian and Genevieve; daughter Susan and her husband Rod of Bow and their children Keelan and Byrie.
Peggy-Ann was predeceased by beloved daughter-in-law Trisha O'Brien in 2004.
