Mooneen B. Parkinson, age 78, passed away peacefully on her birthday December 14, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Chelsea, MA the daughter of the late George and Bertha (Fleming) Gordon.
She attended Saint John's School and was a graduate of Concord High School class of 1962 where she was a majorette and a cheerleader. She received her bachelor's degree in Nursing from Boston University in 1966. She received her master's degree in nursing from the University of New Hampshire in 2003.
Mooneen was passionate about nursing; she worked for 38 years as a registered nurse at the Family Place at Concord Hospital. She also worked as a nursing instructor at the NH Technical Institute and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Mooneen often talked about the pride she took in the care she provided to infants and new parents, preparing them for the journey of life. She embodied the best qualities of the nursing profession in the patience, dedication, and compassion she showed to her patients.
She was an accomplished dancer in her youth, and in her later years she was a proud volunteer for the NH Democratic Party. Mooneen conveyed a rare depth of character, having overcome many losses and challenges early in her life. She was a true example of resilience, and was admired for the strength and perseverance she demonstrated. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and 3 grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her Uncle and Aunt, Leo and Irene Mallon.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Richard J. Parkinson; her daughter, Jennifer Keefe and her husband Christopher of Kennebunkport, ME; her son, Patrick Parkinson and his wife Stephanie McLaughlin of Manchester; 3 grandsons, Ryan, Brendan, and Connor Keefe of Kennebunkport, ME; and her cousins, Kimberly Kelton and Steven Smith of White River Jct. VT, and Mark Fifield of Concord.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, 60 South Main Street, Concord, NH.
Burial will follow at the Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.
Donations may be made in her memory to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, 67 South State Street, Concord, NH 03301.
