Margaret Julia
"Judy" Shaw
October 14, 2024
Margaret Julia Shaw "Judy", 81, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 14, 2024. Judy quietly and courageously battled Lewy Body Dementia for several years. She continually amazed her family and healthcare providers with the depth of her understanding of her condition despite the disease progression.
Judy was born on December 23, 1942, to Herbert and Margaret Geary, and was the fifth and longest surviving of their six children. She spent her early childhood surrounded by generations of family in Concord's South End. After graduating from Concord High School, she was a telephone operator and worked for the New Hampshire State Hospital before eventually finding her calling as the Executive Assistant to the Adjutant General of the New Hampshire National Guard. There, she also found Randy Shaw, the first great love of her life, to whom she was happily married for over 50 years. Randy and Judy eventually settled in Pembroke, New Hampshire, where they lived for 46 years. After the birth of their son, Joel, Judy retired to pursue the second great love of her life, being a mother. She volunteered in the Pembroke school system, chaperoned every class field trip, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and as a Sunday School teacher, while never missing any of Joel's countless sporting events along the way. Somehow, she still found time to pursue her own passion as a long-time member of the Merrimack County Artisans. The last great love of Judy's life was being a grandmother, first to her stepson Randy's children, Joe and Jackie, and later to her son Joel's only-child, Christopher. We all wish they had many more years together, but anyone fortunate enough to witness Judy and Christopher engaged in a laughter-filled game of "hide and seek," an overly enthusiastic game of "slap jack," or a round of "nerf gun target practice" knows that they left an indelible mark on each other's lives. Judy will be best remembered by all those who knew her for her kindness and as the loving caretaker of her family throughout her life.
Judy is survived by her husband, Randy (Allentown, New Hampshire); her son, Joel, his wife, Andrea, and their son, Christopher (Gorham, Maine); her stepson, Randy, and his wife, Debbie (Loudon, New Hampshire), and their children (Joe and Jackie) and their grandchildren; as well as her nieces, nephews, and their families. She is predeceased by her father, Herbert Geary, her mother, Margaret Geary, her sisters, Pat Hickey and Barbara Reuter, and her brothers, Pete Geary, Bob Geary, and Tom Geary.
A private burial service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of Judy to Habitat for Humanity International, 322 West Lamar Street, Americus, Georgia 31709-3543, or a charity of your choice.
