Obituary

Leon George Owen, Concord, NH - Lee Owen, age 82, of Concord, NH, left the world too

soon on July 8, 2022, after a short period of declining health.  Lee passed away in the arms of

his loving wife, Monique Marquis Owen while celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary at Le

Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, where they originally spent their honeymoon.

Lee was born on September 14, 1939, in West Stewartstown, and was raised in Colebrook before

moving to Concord in 1963.  He proudly served his country in the Army as a Specialist 4th

Class.  Lee graduated from New Hampshire College and was an accountant with Anderson and

Cloues for 43 years, retiring in 2006.  Lee was a parishioner at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church

and was active in many organizations, including the National Society of Accountants, Jaycees,

Greater Concord Mental Health/Riverbend, IHM Christian Servants, Boy Scouts of America,

Concord Boys and Girls Club, and Colebrook American Legion.

Lee was instrumental in bringing the Babe Ruth World Series to Concord and was involved in all

areas of youth sports for his four children.  He loved the Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, and, yes,

sometimes, the Yankees.  Lee was very supportive and encouraging of his devoted wife Monique,

who owned and operated The Chandler Shop in downtown Concord.  Lee watched and cheered on

his children in their many endeavors, including his daughter Debra, a practicing attorney who bought

and continues to operate his 83 Clinton Street office building; his son Mark, who became an Eagle

Scout and has won many world-class horse shows; his son Scott, who has coached state

championship high school baseball teams; and his daughter Melissa, who played college division one

field hockey. He was a huge supporter of his seven grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play

game after game, rarely missing one.  Lee was an avid skier and enjoyed rounds of golf.

In addition to his wife Monique, he leaves behind his four children, Debra Stanley (Tom) of Ruskin,

FL; Mark Owen (David) of Derry, NH; Scott Owen (Laura) of Concord, NH; and Melissa Webber

(John) of Bow, NH, along with his most precious grandchildren, Cameron (Celeste and baby to be),

Madison (Drew), Jocelyn, Owen, Griffin, Annabelle, and Patrick.  Lee was predeceased

by his parents Holman and Mildred Owen, and his sister Jerane Firimonte.  He is survived

by his sister Nyla Richards (Charles) and her sons Todd and Jason, as well as their families, his

brother-in-law Pete Firimonte, and Kelly Monahan Owen. He also leaves behind his wife's large

Marquis family, several godchildren, as well as many close friends with whom he shared countless

good times.

Lee and Monique raised their children in Concord and spent time in Colebrook and East Hereford,

Quebec, Canada. They enjoyed attending conventions, cruises, and vacations including Hawaii,

Europe, York Beach, Cape Cod, and Jenness Pond, as well as spending precious time at the dream

come true family home in Stewartstown.

Lee was a deeply dedicated and caring husband, father, papa, brother, and friend to so many.  Lee

enjoyed everything about life and life itself.  His proudest accomplishments are represented in the

time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be missed dearly and beyond words.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 15th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Waters Funeral Home 50 South Main Street, Concord, NH, and on Sunday, July 17th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home 103 Main St, Colebrook, NH.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 18th at 11 am at St. Brendan Church 55 Pleasant Street

Colebrook, NH, where he married Monique sixty years ago on July 21, 1962.

A burial service will follow at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
