Josephine Agnes (Martel) Holmes

Boscawen – Josephine A. (Martel) Holmes, age 91, died peacefully after a period of failing health on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Merrimack County Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 28, 1921 in Barre, VT the daughter of the late Joseph M. Martel and Mary (Sartwell) Martel Elliott. Her early life was spent in Marshfield, VT on a working dairy farm with her family. After a fire destroyed the farm they moved to Concord, NH to be with other family members. She always had such fond memories about living on the farm as a child. She was a graduate from Concord High School class of 1940. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and made sure her family was raised in the faith. Most of her adult life she lived in Concord and Center Barnstead.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband Herbert F. Holmes who passed away in 2009 after 63 years together; and her grandson Jason Milligan in 1994.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Collins and her husband Daniel of Milan, NH, Joyce Milligan and her husband Michael of Loudon, NH; sons, Peter Holmes and his partner Joanne Scanlon formally of Center Barnstead, David Holmes and his Spouse Phillip of Weare; she was also very fond of her daughter in law Sally Homes. She had 10 grandchildren, 19 Great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her family gave her so much enjoyment and she will be greatly missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday (5/16) from 11 am to 12 Noon at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord.
Funeral services will follow at 12 Noon in the Chapel of the Waters Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.
