James "Jamie"
Cannistraro
October 9, 2023
James "Jamie" A. Cannistraro, aged 62, a lifelong resident of Concord, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Granite VNA Hospice House. He was born in Concord, NH, the beloved son of the late Joseph P. and Doris M. (Zappone) Cannistraro. Jamie was a graduate of Concord High School, class of 1979, and he pursued higher education at Plymouth State College. He proudly served in the US Coast Guard.
From an early age, he could be found on summer days chasing bass and bluefish, smelts and flounder in the ocean off "Ptown," Cape Cod. As an adult, he reveled in trout fishing on the serene lakes and ponds of Central New Hampshire. He joined the Capital Bass Club in the 1990's and took every opportunity to be outdoors fishing alongside his father and club friends with a fishing rod in his hand and his broad smile illuminating his face. During his youth he learned gardening from his father and worked with his siblings in the family's candy store summers in Ptown.
He played youth baseball and football. In Junior high, he joined the golf team, and by the time he reached high school, he perfected his drives and putts. He was proud of lettering all four years on the Concord High Golf Team. Winters, he eagerly jumped in the car for every family ski day throughout NH's mountains. He cherished spending time with friends. Jamie had a talent for impersonating famous individuals and cherished a good joke. He continued golfing as an adult and in his quiet time, hobbies included woodworking and crafting models. And Jamie loved singing. He and his mother spent special times together, bursting into melodious song at a moment's notice.
Jamie's faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he dedicated time to volunteering at St. John/Christ the King parish. He lent his voice to the parish choir, singing alongside his mother at Mass, and extended a helping hand in various church endeavors. His volunteer spirit continued – While in the Coast Guard, he received a certificate of appreciation for service as a recruit religious representative for his company. In 1980 he was accepted into the Concord Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America – he found such joy in singing, his baritone voice resonating with passion when performing with "The Concord Coachmen". He spread joy with his fellow Coachmen members singing throughout the local area. For many years, he selflessly volunteered at Concord Hospital. In his quiet yet profound way, Jamie watched over his family and close friends during moments when they least expected it.
Jamie is survived by his older brothers, Joseph "Jay" P. Cannistraro, Jr., and his wife Susan, his brother John A. Cannistraro, and his younger sister, Doris "Dorie" (Cannistraro) Dawkins and her husband Robert "Bob" Dawkins.
