Obituary

Gary Michael Hawkes (1952-2014) Gary Michael Hawkes died January 7, 2014 at his home in Hooksett after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 31, 1952 in Concord to Robert Clifford Hawkes and Gertrude Florence (Landry) Hawkes. He was the 13th child born into a family that numbered 17 siblings (including half siblings.) He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He worked for many years and was devoted to his job at Amoskeag Beverages (formerly Universal Packaging and Graphic Packaging) where he was well loved and respected. Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was known to buy a scratch ticket or two in his lifetime. He also loved sitting on his porch in Hooksett and enjoying the beautiful view and serenity of the Merrimack River. He deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his siblings and nieces and nephews. His daughter Courtney and granddaughters Trinity, Talia and Charlotte were the true loves of his life. He was blessed to be able to spend time with them even as his health was failing. He dearly loved his cat Bugsy and assured that Bugsy would be lovingly cared for after his passing. Gary leaves his daughter Courtney Angelo and her husband Toby and their daughters Trinity, Talia and Charlotte; a step-daughter Michelle Skidmore all of Englewood, FL; Courtney's mother, Debra Youngblood; three brothers: John Hawkes of Peterborough, Russell Hawkes of Penacook and Robert Hawkes of Hobe Sound, FL; seven sisters: Jayne Hawkes and Starr Hawkes of Hooksett, Cheryl Stacy of Greenland, Suzanne Ramos of Concord, Judy Phelps of Danbury, Bonnie Ramos of Loudon and Tammie Cusumano of Boothbay Harbor, ME. He also leaves a large extended family of brothers and sisters in-law and nieces and nephews too numerous to mention with dignity. Gary is also mourned by the Hooksett community, colleagues and many friends including David Ballard, Donald Cummings, David Curtis and Chris Waszeciak (Wazzy.) He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Gertrude Hawkes; two brothers Jeffrey Hawkes and Richard Lavender and four sisters: Linda Foote, Melody Benson, Rosalie Davison and Joanne Parenteau. Gary was profoundly affected by these losses as well as the untimely passing of Richard Stacy, Brian Knox and Robert Roy. The family extends a special thanks to Tom Bullock and Paul Malandrino, Sr., of Amoskeag Beverages for their support of Gary and the family both during his illness and over the years. Gary was touched by their generosity and caring and often commented on it. A memorial visiting hour will be held on Friday, January, 17th from 12 Noon to 1 PM at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord. A service in celebration of Gary's life will follow at 1 PM on January 17, 2014 at Waters Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in the NH Veteran's Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 800-873-6983 www.stjude.org/tributes Gary was one of a kind. He will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him and he will never be forgotten. Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. -- Dr. Seuss
