Obituary

Esther D. Allen (Carrigg), 88, passed away in Concord, NH on Saturday, March 1, 2014. She was predeceased by Augustine Carrigg and Raymond Allen. She was the daughter of the late Emile and Blanche Bergeron.
She lived the greater part of her life in Lowell, MA and graduated from St. Josephs Hospital School of Nursing with the first class of the U.S. Nurses Cadet Corp in 1946. She had a long, prestigious professional life. She retired as an an RN from the Bedford, MA Veteran's Hospital after 25 years of service. After spending many happy years vacationing at her summer home in the lakes region of New Hampshire, she relocated there. She worked at Lakes Region General Hospital, the St. Francis Home and the Tilton VA Hospital where she became certified in Gerontological Nursing at the age of 65. She was named in Who's Who in American Nursing in 1990.
Esther was very active in volunteer work including St. Vincent De Paul, the Oblates Lay Associates and many other volunteer organizations. As a devout Catholic, Esther practiced the Golden Rule and she devoted her life to the service of others.
She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Barron of Tewksbury, MA; Kathleen Carrigg of Concord, NH and Nancy Carrigg (Niejadlik) and her husband Thomas Niejadlik of Concord, NH; and one son, Thomas Carrigg of Dracut MA. She is also survived by one brother, Richard Bergeron of Basking Ridge, NJ. She is also survived by seven grandchildren. Ryan Johns and his wife Linda of Richmond, VA; Jennifer Barron of Franklin, MA; Benjamin Johns and wife Karly of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, James Barron III and wife Katie of Andover, MA; Thomas and Kearny Carrigg of Natick, MA; and Bradley Niejadlik of Concord, NH. She has one great grandchild, Olivia Adler of Franklin, MA and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held privately.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday (3/5) at 2:30PM in the Chapel of the St. Patrick's Cemetery, 1251 Gorham St. Lowell MA. With burial to follow.
