June 19, 1944 – May 28, 2024
Charles Smith Jr., age 79, of N. Main Street passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Concord Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Lincoln, NE the son of the late Charles R. Smith Sr., and Loretta (Wheeler) Norman.
Charlie studied architecture at the University of Nebraska and founded Smith Steel which he operated for over 45 years. He was a retired member of Ironworker Local 7. He lived large and was a natural boss, who loved living on the risky side of everyday.
He was a voracious reader of all subjects, loved hunting, fishing gardening and going on outings with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Charlie also loved planning household projects, ordering the necessary supplies and then moving on to another one before the previous one was completed. He was brilliant, humorous, and generous to a fault and loved by all.
Survived by his wife, Mary (Helzer) Smith of Boscawen; 2 sons, Charles Todd Smith and his wife Kathy of Bow, NH, and Thomas R. Smith and his wife Melissa of Dover, OH; daughter in law, Dede Smith; 8 grandchildren, Joshua, Kayleigh, Aaron, Sarah, Daniel, Justin, Megan, and Christian; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Danny and Mike; 4 sisters, Sharon, Dianna, Debbie and Melody; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step father, Russell Norman; and his son Timothy D. Smith.
A Memorial service will be held June 8, 2024 at Restoration Church 39 Fayette St, Concord at 10:00am, followed by a reception at Concord Parks and Rec (Dame School) 14 Canterbury Rd, Concord.
